Ventura Beach Tips

  1. Don’t swim outside of the designated swimming region. If there is a ropped off swimming area it is probably not safe to venture beyond the space. There could be hazardous objects under the surface, be assigned to boaters, or is unmonitored by lifeguards.
  2. Store items in a mesh bag. It may be convenient to use a backpack, grocery bag, or water-resistant travel bag to stash beach gear such as beach towels, shovels, flotation devices, and extra clothes. But these bags keep water from escaping, causing mold problems and keeping beach items from drying out.
  3. Bring plenty of towels. Don’t forget to take many beach towels prior to heading off to the beach. This is especially important if you’re bringing little children to the beach or if you’re thinking of going for a swim.
  4. Research the restroom situation. Restroom locations could be the last thing on your mind when you plan your beach trip. But no one wishes to be caught in a spot when you gotta go to the bathroom fast but you can’t find one open. If you’re unable to find bathroom information on the beach’s website, you should assume that a public bathroom or porta potty isn’t available. Try to go to the restroom before driving to the beach.
  5. Arrive early. Getting to your Ventura beach early is the best way to avoid crowds.
  6. Get a shady area. If you think that finding a shady area may be tough, or if you know that there may not be too many shady areas available, pack your own! Use a beach umbrella, shaded beach tent, or some sort of equipment that provides shade. Be sure that you use something that provides good airflow.
  7. Will there be a lifeguard? Most large beaches in Ventura staff a lifeguard around, however you shouldn’t count on a lifeguard being in attendance. On your way to the beach, search for beach warning signs. Sometimes they display lifeguard hours.
  8. Pack the right sunscreen. Put on sunscreen when you get to the beach. Remember, sunscreen will expire eventually so look at the side of the bottle for the expiration date.
