Best Beaches in Colorado

Colorado is home to some of the most spectacular mountain ranges in North America and boasts four national parks (Rocky Mountain National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, and Great Sand Dunes National Park).

The mountains in Colorado give rise to many rivers that flow into the ocean; it is these rivers that make up a large part of what makes up one-of-a-kind beaches in this state. Horsetooth Reservoir Swimming Area

Located west of Fort Collins, the Swimming Area at Horsetooth Reservoir is a great place to cool down after hiking, biking, or relaxing on a hot day. Kayak and paddle board rentals are available, but you may want to call and reserve in advance on a busy weekend. The bottom of the reservoir can be rocky in spots, so bring your water shoes if you have them!

Cherry Creek State Park Beach

Cherry Creek State Park Beach is the most popular beach in Colorado. The creek and pond provide a perfect place for young children to play. There are picnic tables and covered pavilions available to enjoy the view.

Chatfield Park Swim Beach

Chatfield State Park Swim Beach is one of Colorado’s best-known beaches. It features sandy shorelines, a playground, boat ramps, mooring docks, and more! With ample parking lots at high access points to the park, Chatfield is a great place for your entire family to enjoy.

Lake Loveland Swim Beach

Lake Loveland Swim Beach is a popular summer destination for many people in the area. The resort has a sandy beach and offers boat rentals and lots of activities for kids. One of the main draws to this beach is the large waterslides which you can pay an extra fee to use. You can also rent chairs and umbrellas or bring your own gear. The parking lot fills up quickly, so arrive early if you’re planning on spending all day here.

Grand Lake Town Beach

Possibly the highest altitude beach in the continental United States at 8,369 feet, Grand Lake Town Beach is situated along Grand Lake near Rocky Mountain National Park. If you’re staying at the historic Grand Lake Lodge during the summer months, walk on down to the beach to play in the waves and watch the sailboats pass by.

Lake Pueblo State Park Beach at Pueblo Reservoir

Lake Pueblo State Park Beach is a well-known spot for families and fun-seekers to gather. Lake Pueblo State Park is a 935-acre park that’s situated in eastern Colorado, just about 10 miles south of Pueblo Reservoir. One of the main attractions at Lake Pueblo State Park is the beautiful beach. The swimming area at the beach is protected from the wind by a breakwater, which also means it’s a great place to learn how to swim in a protected environment.

Aurora Reservoir Beach

Located east of Aurora, the Aurora Reservoir has two beaches “Swimming Beach” and “SCUBA Beach”. Swimming Beach is great if you have kids, don’t want to walk very far, and need easy access to bathrooms and picnic tables. SCUBA beach can only be accessed by foot along the Perimeter Trail, but it is far less crowded and you get views of the mountains across the Reservoir.

James M. Robb Colorado River Beach

Located near the town of Grand Junction, the James M. Robb Colorado River Beach is tucked away off 1-70. The beach offers visitors everything they could wish for including beautiful vistas, friendly staff, and showers for those who want to cool down or rinse off after a long hike.

The recreation area is open 10:00 AM to sunset every day and features a sandy beach with volleyball nets and barbecue grills. Children can enjoy the playground adjacent to the beach and there’s plenty of space to fly a kite or bring a bucket and spade and dig in the sand. Dogs on leashes are welcome too making it the perfect weekend destination for everyone in your family.
